401K Investment- Dividends & Interest?

December 22nd, 2008
chopstix asked:

OK. So I started putting money into my 401k less than a year ago and don’t know too much about it. I’m already down -1k, 25% loss on my investment. I have 7 different investments right now and I noticed that only 3 of them have dividends and interest.

Should I only use the ones that return dividends and interest?

Also, should I switch my investment to low risk ones since stocks are obviously going down? I don’t see it rebounding within the next year or two.

I don’t know too much about this stuff so I’m sorry if my questions are stupid.

I can get 6 to 7 % through CD’s at my credit union, just wondering if anyone knew of any other good investments that may have higher returns at low risk. Thanks,

I have about $7000 to invest & want to be able to withdraw my money in a few years. What are my best options?

I know the economy is floundering right now, and I don’t want a high-risk investment. I’m willing to accept a lower return on an investment that’s also low-risk…. I just don’t know where to start. Thank you!

Good investment for 18-20 years with low risk?

larey asked:

My MIL is going to give my daughter money for her “bank” for Christmas. Instead of just putting this money into her little piggy bank, I would like to invest it in something (like a bond). She will be giving her around $100 so it won’t be much and I’d like it to mature in 18-20 years (when my daughter will be college age). My grandparents did this for me and when my CAT bond matured I had 5K to put towards my first house (of course, I’m sure they put more money down then this). Thanks.
I was hoping to avoid stocks. I was looking for something that was secure…
